Iván Duque speaks out against the murder of Paraguayan anti-drug prosecutor

He reported that the director of the Colombian police, General Jorge Luis Vargas Valencia, is already in the city of Cartagena.


Following the murder of Marcelo Pecci, a Paraguayan anti-drug prosecutor in Colombia, President Iván Duque spoke out.

On his Twitter account, Duque expressed his repudiation of Pecci’s murder while he was on his honeymoon in Cartagena.

The Colombian president announced that he spoke with Governor Mario Abdo Benítez to “agree on all cooperation to find those responsible.”

He also reported that the director of the Colombian police, General Jorge Luis Vargas Valencia, is already in the city of Cartagena.

“We condemn the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in Cartagena. I spoke with President @MaritoAbdo to express my condolences and agree to cooperate fully to find those responsible. @DirectorPolicia is already in the city to carry out the investigations,” said Duque.

Meanwhile, Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez described the murder as a “cowardly murder” that the nation condemned and rejected the incident.

He also said that they will redouble their commitment to combat organized crime.

“The cowardly murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in Colombia has plunged the entire Paraguayan nation into mourning. We condemn this tragic event in the strongest terms and redouble our commitment to fighting organized crime. Our sincere condolences to his family,” he said on his Twitter account.
