Bunia March 2, 2024- The activism of elements of the cooperative militia for the development of Congo CODECO, characterized by massacres of the civilian population, looting, burning of houses and many other blunders, increasingly asphyxiated the customary entity of the chiefdom of Bahema Nord in the territory of Djugu in the province of Ituri.
According to the head of this chiefdom Pilo Mulindro, all eleven (11) groups of his entity, including Berunda Ngazba, Buku, Dhendro, Dirokpa, Kpatchu, Loss-Ndrema, Luvangire, Malabo, Singo, Sombuso and Utcha are under permanent threats CODECO attackers. A situation which automatically makes access difficult for civilians in their respective fields with fear of falling into the hands of these outlaws.
His regret with regard to this problem of insecurity not only in his entity but in the territory of Djugu in general is that, all this suffering is inflicted on the population while a military government has been put in place.
“All the 11 groups in my entity are controlled by elements of CODECO. Life is so complicated because our neighbors have become our enemies. The Bahema North chiefdom has become a battlefield. We thought that with the state of siege we might have peace, but in vain,” he said in the middle of the burial ceremony of fifteen people killed by Codeco.
It is up to him to add “in my chiefdom, human beings have no value, it is difficult to spend the night peacefully in your own house. With this act, they have just flouted the agreement they signed in Aru. It’s up to you, the authorities, to decide, we have suffered so much”.
Absent at this ceremony of last tributes to these victims of the Ente community although expected, the military governor is called to invest in this situation in the territory of Djugu.
“You who come from the capital of the province, tell the military governor to take a good look at our situation, its population here is suffering, you yourself are witnesses”by Pilo Mulindwa
As a reminder, in mid-February 2024, elements of the cooperative militia for the development of Congo CODECO buried several people alive in the Tali-Singo village. They were then dug up a few days later and it was this Friday March 1, 2024 that the bodies of the fifteen (15) people left the morgue of the Bunia general reference hospital, for a dignified burial in the village Katoto, in regarding twenty kilometers from Bunia in the Bahema North chiefdom.
Thus activities remained paralyzed in the town of Bunia and its surroundings at the beginning of March, respecting the slogan of civil society, the living force of Ituri and the ENTE community, whose members were killed, decreeing the day of mourning without activity in order to sympathize with the families of the victims.
According to reliable sources, in addition to these killed people whose bodies were visible, at least fourteen (14) are still wanted since the day of the crimes to these days, they remain untraceable.
