iTunes for Windows now supports 2nd generation HomePod

It is nothing new that the iTunes its days are numbered also in the Windows — the only platform on which it is still in “full” activity — but that does not mean that Apple has completely abandoned it in the operating system of the Microsoft.

The app recently received yet another update (now in version 12.12.8), which added “new device support” and implemented security improvements. It is the first update since December last year, when version 12.12.7 was released in the Microsoft Store.

According to MacRumorsthe new device in question is probably the second generation HomePod, released in January. Last October, the company had already released a similar update — this time, to add support for the new iPads.

In iTunes, it is worth mentioning, it is possible to choose to play the content on other devices (HomePods, Apple TVs, etc.) and the software is still used to manage other Apple devices on PCs.

extinction process

Just as it happened on Mac a few years ago, iTunes will be replaced on Windows by more modern and specific applications for its services/tasks: Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices.

Preview versions of the three apps have been available in the Microsoft Store for Windows 11 users since December last year and, this month, they were updated with support for Portuguese and other languages.

It is worth mentioning that, if you choose to install any of the three new apps, iTunes will stop working on your machine.
