Last Wednesday, the Brussels-West police zone arrested a man who is suspected of several thefts once morest elderly individuals in Ganshoren. The suspect was already wanted by the prison of Ittre for not returning following a prison leave on February 17. Two violent robberies were committed once morest two women, aged 74 and 52, in Ganshoren on March 21. The perpetrator used the same modus operandi on both occasions by riding on a scooter, asking the victims directions to the swimming pool, and threatening them with a steak knife before stealing their belongings and fleeing. However, the victims were able to give a detailed description of the suspect. The police increased their patrols in the area and were able to observe and arrest the suspect the next day. Upon his arrest, a steak knife was found on him, and he immediately confessed to having fled from prison on February 17 and to committing the thefts. The 32-year-old suspect was formally recognized by the victims and charged by an investigating judge. He was later placed under an arrest warrant by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.

“Two violent robberies were committed on two ladies aged 74 and 52, on March 21, in the territory of Ganshoren”explained the Brussels-West police zone on Monday. “Each time, the same modus operandi was used by the author. He moved around on a scooter, asked the victims the way to the swimming pool and then threatened them with a steak knife. He ordered them to give him their belongings, then fled on a scooter with his loot. The victims remained in shock but were able to give a very good description of the suspect.”
The Brussels-West police zone reinforced its patrols in Ganshoren and, the next day, a suspect was observed. He was arrested and the police discovered a steak knife on him.
“The person concerned immediately confessed to having fled Ittre prison on February 17. He also spontaneously admitted having committed the theft. The suspect, aged 32, was questioned by our services and he was formally recognized by the victims. He was indeed reported. He had not returned from his prison leave on February 17”, said the Brussels-West police zone.
The suspect was made available to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, then charged and placed under an arrest warrant by an investigating judge.
