The 34th Malta Festival kicks off on Saturday, September 7! What will the public opening look like? At 3:00 p.m. in Fryderyk Chopin Park, Malta will be inaugurated with speeches by, among others, the festival’s patron, Dominika Kulczyk, and Jaha Dukureh, a Nobel Peace Prize-nominated activist working to combat the mutilation of women and girls.

After these speeches, the Dominoes installation will be set in motion, and all those gathered will be able to follow the trail of 7,200 falling dominoes, the cascade of which will eventually lead to Chwaliszewo. And it is there, in the Stare Koryto Warty Park, that the next part of the inauguration will take place. When the last domino falls, the “Wiedź-MY” procession led by Ewa Wycichowska, accompanied by Little Amal – a 3.5-meter doll representing a 10-year-old Syrian girl – and the Rebel Babel brass band, will lead everyone to the site of the unveiling of the sculpture commemorating a woman sentenced to death for allegedly practicing witchcraft. The work of art created at Ewa Łowżył’s initiative will be told by its author, sculptor Alicja Biała, and Dominika Kulczyk will unveil the image of the historical Witch to everyone.

This is how Malta Festival 2024 will start! Right after the opening ceremony, at 5:00 p.m., the Festival Center will host a panel entitled “Witches in the World,” featuring Jaha Dukureh, Amanda Edmiston, and Michael Ostling. At 8:00 p.m., the Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theater will perform the opera “I, Şeküre” by Aleksander Nowak, based on the plot of the novel “My Name is Red” by Orhan Pamuk. At the same time, Jalen Ngonda, gifted with an exceptional voice, will perform at the Tama club. Also from 8:00 a.m., the Witches’ Choir, led by Ewa Łowżył, will perform at the Stare Koryto Warty Park. The curator of the DJ program Poté will play at the Festival Club on Plac Wolności, and at 10 p.m. in the same place, Silent Disco will start with the participation of the NOS trio, Agnieszka Szydłowska, Agnieszka Obszańska and Michał Nogaś. At the same time, the Polish Dance Theater will show the party-like and unpredictable “Mój Pierwsze Rave” by Agnieszka Jakimiak and Mateusz Atman. And this is just the first day of the Malta Festival program!
