A comet that fell on Saturday evaporated in the direction of the sun, moments following the NASA “Soho” space observatory recorded its approach to the sun.
According to the NASA website, on August 6, the observatory recorded the fall of a comet towards the sun by the observatory, and hours following this video was taken, the comet disappeared and evaporated due to the intense heat of the sun.
The comet is a member of the “Kreutz family”, which is the fragments of a giant comet that crashed several centuries ago, and more than 85% of the comets observed by “Soho” belong to this group, and it occurs when one of them is a very bright comet, and it is possible to see this event every year or two .
The Solar Observatory “Soho” is a space observatory to examine the sun and the spherical atmosphere of the sun, manufactured by ESA in conjunction with NASA, and the US Agency launched it on a carrier rocket “Atlas 2AS” on December 2, 1995, and the work of the space observatory began in May 1996, and it monitored More than 4000 comets fall towards the sun.
Since the beginning of its work, this observatory has revolutionized the sciences of “solar physics.” Before its launch, there was no explanation for the questions regarding the core of the sun, nor regarding the origin of the continuous flow of materials from the sun, which is known as the “solar wind”, nor regarding the mysterious heating of the heat of the solar atmosphere. But 27 years later, following its launch, our entire understanding of the Sun’s behavior has changed.
