After years of rumors and an announcement last June during WWDC 2023, the moment of truth is approaching for the Vision Pro. Officially expected at the start of 2024, without further details, Apple’s mixed reality headset would indeed be ready for this launch window, despite production problems which cast doubt on the capacity of Apple to respect its commitment.

We learn from Ming-Chi Kuo that the Cupertino company would succeed in launching a first batch of Vision Pro for “end of January / beginning of February » 2024. The analyst from TF International Securities, often well informed, also estimates that in total, Apple would market nearly 500,000 units over the whole of next year. In this case, the first arrivals would be expected in around a month.

A modest amount of Vision Pro to start?

500,000 units available in 2024. This currently corresponds to rumors which suggested that Apple would have been forced to revise its initial objectives downward. A few months ago, we learned that the firm planned to market between 400,000 and 1 million copies in the year following the launch of its Vision Pro. With 500,000 copies, we are in the lower range of this estimate.

For context, these units represent a modest quantity of devices for a company like Apple, which releases around 200 million iPhones each year. The Vision Pro nevertheless risks pushing the group to be cautious. A brand new product in a whole new category of devices for Apple, the firm’s mixed reality headset is also one of Tim Cook’s biggest bets since his start as CEO 12 years ago.

The Apple Vision Pro also required many years of research and development, and it is also trying to break into a relatively sluggish VR market. Many brands have already broken their teeth there. Enough to encourage the Californian giant to move forward step by step… especially since the accessory will be sold at a prohibitive price: $3,499 in the United States.
