In Namur, an empty building rented by the Walloon Region has been lit all night for weeks. A user reported it to us via the orange Alert us button. The Walloon public service explains that the problem comes from a power failure.
Recently built and still unoccupied, a 17,000 m² building in Namur has been lit every night for several months.
The local residents met this morning are formal: “Yes, we arrived in December and it’s true that every night it’s on. It’s really a waste because it’s a huge volume.” A passer-by continues: “It is lit very early in the morning. All day, from the first to the top.”
The Wallonia public service (SPW) is renting the nine-storey building in order to relocate its regional finances there in the coming months. The SPW does not wish to speak in front of the camera but specifies: “Following a power outage, a timer went wrong. This is why the building was left lit at night. The problem is now solved.”
However, a witness specifies:Last night it was still the case. In this time when everyone is trying to save money, even our king. It’s a bit of a shame to see that there are people who waste like that while others are on the street.”
Once widespread, nocturnal office lighting is no longer popular, especially since the Walloon government is asking its agents and citizens to save energy.
