- The Switch 2 would be equipped with an Nvidia Tegra 239 chip, engraved in 5 nm.
- It would have greater graphics power than the Steam Deck and the PS4 Pro.
- It would also have more RAM, storage and a larger screen.
Speculation regarding a possible Nintendo Switch 2 is rife and this weekend, a technical sheet leaked by the Universo Nintendo site is the talk of the town. Although these details are not confirmed, they are still worth looking into.
Switch 2: a Nintendo console that might well overshadow the Steam Deck
If the rumors are confirmed, Nintendo would continue its successful collaboration with Nvidia, this time with a Tegra 239 chip, nicknamed Drake. This chip would be engraved in 5 nm, marking a significant improvement over previous generations. The CPU of this new chip would embed 8 Cortex-A78C coresoffering notably more processing power than the current Switch.
The Switch 2 might thus compete with home consoles in terms of graphics power. In dock mode, it would develop between 3.5 and 4.5 teraFLOPSplacing it above the Steam Deck and the PS4 Pro in terms of performance (1.6 and 1.8 teraFLOPS respectively).
In mobile mode, the graphics power would remain impressive, surpassing that of the current Switch. Since it is said that it will benefit from DLSS 3.5, it might well display games in 4K on a television, or in 1080p on its portable screen, while maintaining a good refresh rate.
The future console would not be limited to raw power. She would embark between 12 and 16 GB of LPDDR5/X RAMan 8-inch screen with a resolution of 1080p at 60 Hz (although it is rumored to be 120 Hz) and storage of 256 to 512 GB, a significant jump compared to current models.
As for cartridge support, it is not clear if the new console will be compatible with Switch games, or if it will use a new format. The Universo Nintendo site mentions the possibility of using 3D-NAND flash to increase the capacity of its cartridges. However, we will have to continue to wait for news from the Kyoto firm, perhaps during a next Direct?
