“It’s potentially deadly”: health professionals educate the public about screening for hypertension in Les Arcs

The Dracénie-Provence-Verdon territorial professional health community (CPTS) organized a workshop on Friday morning to raise awareness and screen for high blood pressure. An action that emanates from the working group in favor of the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, led by Dr. Chaix, referent cardiologist.

The members of the collective detail the foundations of their action once morest an insidious and dangerous disease for the body.

What is high blood pressure and how to diagnose it?

The standard wants that one speaks of hypertension when the arterial pressure exceeds 12/8 cm of mercury. However, this value must be correlated with age and other risk factors (mainly cholesterol and smoking). It is an insidious disease, which affects everyone and most often without visible symptoms. The use of a simple blood pressure monitor, however, makes it possible to make a quick diagnosis.

Is high blood pressure dangerous?

Hypertension tires the body and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (stroke, heart attack). You have to imagine literally narrowed blood vessels in which the blood circulates very quickly, much more than enough, with strong pressure. Combined with other risk factors, hypertension is potentially fatal.

What is your assessment of your action today?

We met around a hundred people, some with particularly high tension. We made the volunteers aware of the use of a tensiometer. As a precaution, eight people were referred to their attending physician for further investigation.

Do you have any recommendations to give?

It is necessary to control its tension every year before the quarantine then once per quarter beyond. It is a free action, completely painless, which can be carried out by any doctor, nurse or pharmacist, or even directly at home thanks to a personal tensiometer. It is imperative to consult a doctor in the event of repeated exceeding of the norm and if there is an accumulation with other risk factors. Hypertension is a disease that is easily treated, provided a diagnosis is made.
