“It’s over at six!”: Video shows a strange robbery of a Styrian tobacconist

Thanks to the cash register! Because this closes automatically at 6 p.m., a robber who had hoped for the big coup in a tobacconist in Graz went home empty-handed. A video released by the Styrian state police department on Friday evening now shows the curious facets of the failed robbery.

“Boss, this is a robbery”

A young man enters the shop on Wednesday a few minutes before 6 p.m., masked with a face mask and sunglasses – and at first is not understood. “I want the money,” he murmurs, the employee barks at him: “What do you want?”. The petty criminal repeats himself: “Des gonze money” and substantiates his claim with what the police say is a “deceptively real-looking pistol”. The cashier is unimpressed: “Yes, exactly” and brings her superior into the sales room: “Boss, this is a robbery”.

“I’ll take one”

Finally, the robbery fails at the cash desk. “I’ll take one now, it’s over at six. The cash register is closed then,” says the employee, almost apologetically, because the cash register can no longer be opened automatically following 6 p.m. And the boss advises: “Do muast s next Mol a Stund fria kumma”. But the thief doesn’t give up: “Somehow you have to go” and gets the answer “Well, I’m sorry”. Finally, the would-be robber leaves without having accomplished anything, as you can see in this video:

He fled on foot, a search was unsuccessful. Investigators from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in Styria have taken over the investigation. According to initial findings, the perpetrator might be responsible for other robberies in Preding near Weiz and in Kemeten, Oberwart district. The public prosecutor’s office in Graz orders the publication of a photograph in the media and a surveillance video on the website of the Styrian police force.
