Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)–When we think of obsessive-compulsive disorder, we think of habits such as being very careful regarding hygiene.
However, obsessive-compulsive disorder practices are not just regarding hygiene.
The official account of the Omani Ministry of Health, in a tweet, referred to the practices that patients may perform.
Common compulsions in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder:
- Frequent washing of hands
- Refusing to shake hands or touch doorknobs
- Recheck locks, turn off ovens, lock the car
- Returning to obsessive thoughts that do not go away, and they may even affect sleep
- Count and self-check aloud while performing routine tasks
- Arrange things or clothes in a very specific way, and in a specific order
- Eat foods in a specific order
- Repeating words, sentences, or prayers
- The need to perform the same tasks over and over
- store different things
