It’s not just a problem in Brazil, far-right fanatics must be fought: Lula da Silva
Brasilia: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that the new monsters of the country are the fanatical far right and he will fight and defeat them. Lula, who is also a former trade union leader, responded that his desire is to fight the right-wing evil forces not only in Brazil but all over the world.
”Far-right fanatics hate everyone who doesn’t share their views. We must challenge and defeat these new monsters.
“This is not just a Brazilian problem, but I have never seen the country so gripped by hate,” Lula said, speaking from the presidential palace in Brasilia.
Lula also spoke comparing former US President Donald Trump and former Brazilian President Bolsonaro’s influence in the country.
Lula also mentioned that Bolsonaro is often described as ‘Tropical Trump’.
“We have defeated Bolsonaro, but we still have to defeat the elements of hatred, lies, misinformation and bigotry. Because this society of ours still needs to become civilized,” the Brazilian president added.
Lula’s response comes following supporters of former president and far-right leader Bolsonaro unleashed violence and riots in Brazil two weeks ago.
Bolsonaro’s supporters attacked the president’s residence, the Supreme Court and the Parliament building in Brazil on January 8.
Thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed security barricades and climbed onto the roofs of the parliament building and the Supreme Court, breaking windows.
Some of the attackers also called for the military to step in and oust President Lula from office and bring back Bolsonaro.
President Lula responded that the violence was unleashed by regarding 3,000 extreme right-wingers. President Lula also stated that strict action will be taken once morest the attackers. According to reports, the police arrested around 2000 people in connection with the riots.
The attack in Brazil was similar to the Capitol attack by supporters of Donald Trump in the US. Government forces have been deployed at the scene to deal with the riot-like atmosphere.
Earlier, Bolsonaro’s ranks attacked the country’s police headquarters following facing a massive defeat in the presidential election.
Supporters of Bolsonaro stormed and attacked the federal police headquarters in Brasilia. Images of protesters dressed in the colors of Brazil’s flag were widely circulated on local television channels and social media.
