India have come under heavy criticism from all quarters for failing to produce pitches that can sustain a Test for the allotted five days. Now cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has given his opinion on this matter. The master blaster said that instead of focusing on the length of Test matches, we should look at their ‘attraction’. He says the focus should be on quality rather than length of a Test match.
He said that as a cricketer, a batter should be prepared to play on all types of pitches and judge them well to excel in tough conditions. Talking regarding the differences between home and away, Sachin said it is important for touring teams to understand the away conditions and plan accordingly.
Test cricket should be attractive, it’s not regarding how many days it lasts. We (cricketers) play on different pitches. Whether the pitch favors fast bowlers or spinners, we have to be ready to face the ball in all situations.
Things aren’t easy when you’re on tour. So you have to understand and assess what is happening and then plan things,” Sachin said.
