The National Heritage Foundation, which manages the historic site, quickly posted a message on its website, announcing that a large tree had fallen on the way back from the house.

A National Heritage Foundation spokesman said he was aware of “visitors, staff and volunteers who remain at Greenway and do not have the ability to leave,” noting that the foundation is doing “everything in its power” to ensure their comfort while they wait. Tourists were able to leave the property following local rescue services managed to reopen the road.
