She expresses annoyance. Expected on the top step of the podium at the Beijing Olympicsor at least on one of the other two, Perrine Laffont, the reigning Olympic champion, failed to grab one of the three medals on the moguls. At 23, the Ariègeoise dreamed of becoming the first double Olympic champion in the history of mogul skiing. But she missed her final and had to settle for a necessarily frustrating fourth place.

Since then, instead of being able to turn the page and calmly digest this poor performance, Perrine Laffont has to face criticism and even insulting messages on social networks. “Unfortunately, I had unpleasant comments, not necessarily benevolent”, she explained this Saturday on RMC.

“It’s getting serious”

This week, she publicly supported American Mikaela Shiffrin, who left China without an individual medal. A terrible failure for this champion with an immense record. A triple Olympic medalist (giant gold in 2014, slalom gold and combined silver in 2018), she went out in giant, slalom and combined. After living through a catastrophic fortnight, Mikaela Shiffrin was treated to a wave of insults on its various social networks.

“When I saw what happened with Mikaela Shiffrin, I said to myself that it was getting a bit too much, underlined on RMC Perrine Laffont. We only do sport, it’s a game. These comments have no place, it’s hard to understand how we got there. People insult skiers, it’s getting serious. It might be punishable by law.”
