According to The Athletic, Lampard’s return to Chelsea is in principle agreed, while The Guardian report he could be on the pitch for the Premier League game against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday. He was spotted in the stands at Stamford Bridge during the draw against Liverpool in midweek.
The former Chelsea midfielder is expected to take charge of the team temporarily until the end of the season, while the club seek a permanent replacement for Graham Potter, who was relieved of his duties on Sunday. He will apparently be joined by deputies Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.

Chelsea plan to start talks with up to five candidates for the full-time job, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique as the main suitors for now. Lampard previously served as head coach from July 2019 until January 2021, when he was sacked and replaced by Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel.
Since being sacked by relegated Everton in January, Lampard has been out of a job. Lampard’s return to business at Chelsea could also be very good news for Edouard Mendy.
