Hold on to Your Rackets! The Swiss Indoors is Back in Basel!
Home / Local news / Sport / It’s Basel: the best tennis players arrive less than 2 hours from Strasbourg
From October 19 to 27, the tennis elite will grace Basel for the Swiss Indoors, and trust me, it’s going to be more intense than a four-hour marriage counseling session! With an impressive line-up featuring two players from the top 10 and eight from the top 20, this tournament reads like a “who’s who” of the tennis world. And the best part? It’s just a hop, skip, and a jump from Strasbourg—less than two hours, in fact! So buckle up, folks; we’re in for a thrilling ride!
As the elite players converge in Basel, I can’t help but think of Roger Federer, the Swiss Superman. After hanging up his rackets in 2022[[[[cue the sad violin music, please], all eyes are now on the new contenders. But do grab some popcorn because the competition is brewing up to be fiercer than a bear at a honey festival!
The Line-Up: A Star-Studded Affair!
- Andrey Rublev (Russia) – 7th in the world, and trust me, he’s not just a pretty backhand! He’s already bagged 2 Masters 1000 trophies.
- Casper Ruud (Norway) – 8th in the world and three-time Grand Slam finalist. I mean, who doesn’t love a good Nordic thriller?
- Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) – 11th in the world with 3 Masters 1000 wins. If charisma could win matches, he’d already have a trophy room full!
- Hubert Hurkacz (Poland) – 12th in the world and double Masters 1000 winner. Is it just me, or does he sound like a wizard in a tennis court?
- Holger Rune (Denmark) – 14th and the Paris-Bercy champ of 2022. Someone should really tell him he needs a vacation.
- Ben Shelton (USA) – 17th in the world and always ready to serve a slice of outrageous talent!
Leading the charge to defend the title is none other than Félix Auger-Aliassime, currently sitting at 21st in the world. With two previous titles under his belt, he’ll be looking to make it three in a row. But don’t count out our French duo, Arthur Fils and Ugo Humbert, the recent Tokyo titans! Having triumphed and tussled over the ATP 500 trophy, they’ll strut onto those Basel courts with more swagger than a peacock in a tuxedo.
And here’s a fun fact: It’s been since 1987 that a Frenchman has won this title—yes, we’re talking about the legendary Yannick Noah. I mean, it’s about time one of them waltzed in and broke that drought!
Securing Your Seats: Brace Yourself for Ticket Prices!
If you fancy watching tennis served with a side of drama, you can grab your tickets here. But, let’s not sugarcoat it—those prices are higher than a giraffe on stilts! The front-row tickets hover around 81 Swiss Francs. For the love of tennis, we’re better off attending the qualifiers where quality tennis can be had at a discounted price!
Either way, the crème de la crème of men’s tennis will be just a stone’s throw from Strasbourg. The smell of competition is in the air, and I don’t just mean the Swiss cheese! As the players finalize their preparations, we anticipate an explosive showdown that will surely make for some exceptional highlights.

To lead the hunt for the title, Félix Auger-Aliassime[[[[actuellement 21e mondial, ndlr]will be keen to defend its chances. As very serious outsiders, we can also count on our two best French players: Arthur Fils and Ugo Humbert, recent winner and finalist of the ATP 500 in Tokyo, on hard indoor courts like Basel. It would be quite an achievement to see a Frenchman win the title: it hasn’t happened since 1987 and Yannick Noah.
