TV MAGAZINE. – How did Thierry Ardisson introduce you to “Hôtel du temps”?Orlando. – I was in Saint-Tropez when he came to see me twice. He sent me a little video with Jean Gabin, which is a great success. Afterwards, we met once more in Paris to read the script. I found the project audacious. In a somewhat nostalgic era, the idea of going back in time is original, new. It’s a change from everything you see on TV.
How did he manage to convince you?
I had a lot of curiosity, a lot of interest and a lot of friendship because with Thierry, we’ve known each other for a long time. In 1982, he had done a nice interview with Dalida for “Rock & Folk”, a little cash, different from what we were used to hearing him say. Since then, there has been a certain complicity, so I trusted him completely. We talked a lot and worked on the script. In particular, I told him the words or phrases that Dalida used to use. Thierry was great.
What did you think of the screenplay written by Thierry Ardisson?
As I often say, I witnessed Dalida’s story, I became the guardian of her memory. When I read the script, it reminded me of things, it was very touching. Thierry flew over his whole life. He did it with elegance without being too nosy. The public will discover and understand things without voyeurism. It’s as if Dalida had come back to give an interview. Thierry has put all his heart into it, I wish him the greatest success.

In February, you came to the set. How did you find the actress who plays your sister?
I find Julie Chevallier very pretty. She reminds me of Sveva Alviti who had played in the biopic. The first thing I wanted to see, since the face is Dalida’s, was her hands. She has exactly the same hands as Dalida, very long. I also needed to be reassured regarding the accent. Until today, imitators, because they roll the r’s, think they are doing Dalida but that’s not true, most of the time they are ridiculous and it becomes a caricature. Thanks to the actress who worked a lot on her accent and the technology, it’s very successful. When Thierry made me listen to Dalida’s voice for the first time, I thought it was fantastic. It’s really Dalida’s voice, it’s a feat.
How did you find the end result?
It’s amazing, the resemblance is huge. Dalida is superb, it’s a total success! If Dalida’s longevity is so obvious, it’s also because I’ve always treated her in the present tense and I’ve always given her the benefit of current technology.
It’s a great way to celebrate the 35th anniversary of his death…
I am very happy that the channel has chosen to start with Dalida.
