A craftsman from Russia presented a tuned GAZ-21 Volga with a 3-liter engine from Toyota
GAZ-21 “Volga” – the legendary Soviet car, which is rightfully considered one of the symbols of its era. However, today this model is already outdated both morally and technically. But this did not stop one enthusiast from Samara from turning the retro Volga into a 21st century supercar.
It all started with the fact that Oleg (that is the name of the author of the project) inherited the old Volga GAZ-21 from his father. He himself also loved Soviet cars, so he drove it for several years. However, over time, he was increasingly annoyed by the modest technical characteristics of the Volga.
Then Oleg decided not just to restore the car, but to overhaul it. First, he painted the body to give the Volga a more modern look. And then I got a 3-liter 300-horsepower 2JZ-GTE engine from Toyota Aristo in Vladivostok. After a lot of trial and error, this unit was integrated into the Volga.
This was followed by the replacement of the rear axle with an independent suspension from Toyota Mark 2. The front suspension was also upgraded with parts from GAZ-31105 and Mazda 3. Shock absorbers from KONI.
The interior of the Volga has changed even more. Instead of an outdated dashboard, a modern Mazda 6 with climate control and cruise control appeared. The steering wheel is multifunctional from the same Mazda. But the comfortable seats are borrowed from the Mazda CX-7.
Completed tuning new alloy wheels with low profile tires. The result is a unique car that combines the retro design of the Volga and modern stuffing. In terms of comfort, it is not inferior to foreign cars, and its dynamics can compete with many sports cars.
Thus, thanks to enthusiasm and skill, the old Soviet Volga found a second life as a supercar of the 21st century. This unusual car is a vivid example of how, with the help of tuning, you can turn a retro car into a modern and powerful car. (photo: www.drive2.ru)
