Itapúa prepares to make history as the venue for the First World Rally on red dirt in 2025

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The department of Itapúa is in full preparation for an unprecedented event: the World Rally Championship, which will be held on the emblematic red earth. This was confirmed by the governor of Itapúa, Javier Pereira, who detailed the progress in the preparations and the expectations surrounding this event that will be held in 2025 and that promises to attract the attention of millions of people globally.

A rally for the whole family: safety and enjoyment

One of the key pillars of the event is to ensure that it is a family-friendly rally, with a special focus on the safety and enjoyment of all attendees. Local authorities are working hard to create a safe environment, where spectators can experience the thrill of the race without unnecessary risks. Rigorous security measures are being implemented in all areas of the event, with particular attention paid to the organisation of traffic and access to viewing points.

“This event will mark a before and after in the history of Itapúa. We are the department with the greatest cultural diversity in Paraguay, and the World Rally will allow us to show the world our natural, historical and cultural wealth, as well as the legacy of more than 22 nationalities that live together in this region. Itapúa is ready to welcome the world, and we will do so by taking care of our people and those who visit us,” stressed Governor Pereira.

In line with this safety approach, several prominent drivers have called for responsibility from all those attending. Fabrizio Galanti, Toyota Gazoo Racing driver, emphasized: “The World Championship is coming to Paraguay, so just as we take care of ourselves when driving, we ask people to take care of themselves a little on the stages, take care of safety, take measures, so we need that for everything to go well.”

Alejandro Galanti, Toyota Gazoo Racing driver and champion of the 2024 Chaco Rally, added: “Just as we prepare and take care of ourselves in the races, you too should take care of yourself, follow the safety regulations to show that we are ready to host the World Rally Championship.”

Blas Zapag, Copetrol Rally driver, said: “We are here enjoying the preview of what is to come. The World Rally is an event that we would never have imagined. I call for everyone to be aware that it is an event that could be ruined if we do not respect the rules. So it is an opportunity that we have, that we cannot waste, and the only detail that must be taken into account is to respect it during the day, and you will see the best show for those of us who love the world.”

Preparations underway: infrastructure, security and hospitality

With the expectation of receiving between 400,000 and 500,000 visitors during the days of the event, local authorities are intensifying the training and improvements necessary to be up to the task of an event of this magnitude. This includes the fine-tuning not only of the competition roads, but also of the access routes so that fans can enjoy the race without any setbacks.

Itapúa stands out for its accessibility, being a strategic point that easily connects with neighboring countries such as Brazil and Argentina, both by land and air. In addition, the range of services in the region is extensive, with a solid hotel infrastructure and a gastronomic diversity that reflects the melting pot that characterizes the department.

A unique natural setting: the red earth as the protagonist

One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming World Rally in Itapúa is the terrain on which the competition will take place. It will be the first time in history that a World Rally will be run on the region’s characteristic red earth, which promises a unique challenge for drivers and an unrivalled visual experience for spectators. The combination of this soil with natural elements such as water, jungle and green vegetation will offer a stunning setting for both competitors and the public.

Furthermore, this event is expected to leave an important legacy in terms of tourism promotion and economic development. The media exposure that Itapúa will receive, with live broadcasts to more than 240 countries, will be an unparalleled opportunity to position the department on the world map, not only as a tourist destination, but also as an attractive place for future investments.
