Asuncion, IP Agency.- The department of Itapúa is in full preparation for an unprecedented event, the World Rally Championship, which will be held on the emblematic red earth. This was confirmed by the governor of Itapúa, Javier Pereira, in an interview with our media where he shared details about the preparations and expectations surrounding this event that will be held in 2025 and that promises to attract the attention of millions of people globally.
“Itapúa has achieved this feat thanks to the perseverance and dedication of more than 40 years of history in the organization of rally events,” Pereira stressed.
According to the governor, this success is the result of the natural and strategic characteristics of the department, which have made Itapúa an ideal setting for the competition. “We have the roads, the committed municipalities, and the unconditional support of our authorities. These elements are the special ingredient that has allowed us to be on the World Rally grid today, a dream that began in 2019,” he added.
Preparations underway: infrastructure, security and hospitality
With the expectation of receiving between 400,000 and 500,000 visitors during the days of the event, local authorities are working to ensure that everything is ready. “Although Itapúa already has a considerable infrastructure, we are intensifying the training and improvements necessary to be up to the task of an event of this magnitude,” explained the governor. This includes the fine-tuning not only of the competition roads, but also of the access routes so that fans can enjoy the race without setbacks.
Itapúa stands out for its accessibility, being a strategic point that easily connects with neighboring countries such as Brazil and Argentina, both by land and air. In addition, the range of services in the region is extensive, with a solid hotel infrastructure and a gastronomic diversity that reflects the melting pot that characterizes the department. “We are the department with the greatest cultural diversity in Paraguay, and this is reflected in the richness of our gastronomy and the hospitality of our people,” said Pereira.
A unique natural setting: the red earth as the protagonist
One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming World Rally in Itapúa is the terrain on which the competition will be held. “The great attraction and novelty for international rally drivers will be the red earth of Itapúa. It is the first time in history that a World Rally will be run on this type of soil,” the governor stressed. Added to this are other natural elements such as water, jungle and green vegetation, which will offer a unique challenge to the drivers and an unparalleled visual experience for spectators.
The World Rally will be a showcase for automotive talent, and will also significantly boost the local economy. “This event will leave an important legacy in terms of organizational experience, tourism promotion and economic development,” Pereira said. The media exposure that Itapúa will receive, with live broadcasts to more than 240 countries, will be an unrivaled opportunity to position the department on the world map, not only as a tourist destination, but also as an attractive place for future investments.
In line with this international projection, the governor emphasized the importance of the Jesuit settlements, located in San Cosme, Jesús de Tavarangüe and Trinidad, which have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. “The Rally will allow us to show the world our historical and cultural jewels, which are a source of pride for all of Paraguay,” he said.
Culture and tradition: Itapúa as the capital of chipa and much more
Due to its natural and historical wealth, Itapúa is known as the capital of various emblematic products of Paraguayan culture, including chipa. During the Rally, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities that will allow them to learn about and enjoy the local culinary tradition, such as the preparation of chipa, a product that drives an important industry in the region.
“Itapúa is the capital of chipa, pork, soy, wheat, rice, carrots, oranges and honey,” said Pereira. “This event will be a window to showcase the diversity and richness of our department, as well as the cultural legacy of the more than 22 nationalities that live together in this region.”
Finally, Governor Pereira emphasized the potential of Itapúa to attract long-term investments as a result of the World Rally. “Tourism brings with it economic development, and we are confident that this event will leave a deep mark on our region, not only in terms of tourism, but also as a driver for new investments,” he concluded.
Looking ahead to 2025, Itapúa is preparing to welcome the world, certain that this event will mark a before and after in the history of the department, consolidating it as a first-class destination for tourism, culture and investment.
