Italy’s prime minister splits with his partner over sexist comments

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said she has split from her partner and television journalist Andrea Giambruno over sexist comments.

According to the Reuters news agency, Maloney told reporters last month that she should not base her opinion on her partner Giambruno’s remarks and that she would not answer questions regarding his behavior in the future.

The two parted ways as the 46-year-old prime minister has been in office for a year and the head of a coalition government has defended the traditional family system as a key part of his policy.

Giorgia Maloney commented on her social media accounts that “Me and Andrea Giambruno’s 10-year relationship ends here. We’ve parted ways for some time now and it’s time to acknowledge it.”

She said that I will not be bothered by difficulties in my private life, all those who think that by storming my house they can weaken me, they will not get any success.

The couple, who met in a studio in 2014, have a seven-year-old daughter.

Giambruno, 42, hosts a news program broadcast by Mediaset, part of the MFE media group owned by the heirs of the late former prime minister and Maloney ally Silvio Berlusconi.

This week, a satirical current affairs television program on MediaSet aired portions of off-air video of Giambruno’s program in which he might be seen using foul language and stalking a female colleague.

He asks this woman, ‘Why didn’t I meet you earlier?’

The TV journalist was criticized in August for his comments on a gang-rape case where he blamed the victims.

Giambruno was not immediately available for comment, while Mediaset said on Friday that it had suspended the journalist from the program while the company looked into the matter closely.
