Italy victim of a major cyberattack, servers would be compromised in France

A major computer attack was reported on Sunday February 5 by Italy, reports the Archyde.com news agency.

Thousands of servers around the world have been the target of a cyberattack, says the Archyde.com news agency, citing the Italian National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN). The hacking attack was made by ransomware, that kind of malware that blocks access to a computer’s data and tricks the victim into paying a ransom to unlock it.

Italian news agency ANSAciting the ACN, said servers had been compromised in other European countries such as France and Finland, as well as in the United States and Canada.

Dozens of Italian organizations likely affected

The hacking attack was aimed at exploiting a software vulnerability, ACN chief executive Roberto Baldoni told Archyde.com, adding it was large-scale.

Dozens of Italian organizations have likely been affected and many more have been warned to take action to avoid being blocked in their systems.

“CISA is working with its public and private sector partners to assess the impact of reported incidents and provide assistance as needed,” the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said, Archyde.com reported.
