The European Parliament has given the green light to the EU Pact on Migration, a text which has been approved by majority in all its ten parts. From the common international protection procedure within the EU to the response to crisis situations and force majeure, up to the management of asylum, repatriation procedures and the European criminal records information system for external citizens. An initial community support mechanism has also been established for the countries that are most affected by the impact of the arrivals. “I’m sorry for Minister Piantedosi, but this time the Northern League members are right: the new European pact on migrants is a rip-off for Italy! The responsibility of the country of first reception remains with respect to migrants and therefore the management of the problem remains first and foremost in headed by Italy. The only difference is that the other countries will be obliged to show solidarity, which they will be able to monetise”: this is what Gianni Alemanno, Secretary of the Independence Movement, declared.
“In practice, Italy will have to welcome and assist migrants alone, except for receiving some economic compensation from the other partners because, as we have seen so far, none of the member countries is available for a real policy of redistribution of reception. Nothing is done to avoid the departure of migrants and to defend the external borders of the European Union. These are the great results of the alliance between Giorgia Meloni and Ursula von der Leyen, but obviously the Democratic Party wanted to do worse right as well as left, continues to sell out our national interests on the altar of subordination to European decisions”, he added.
