Hold on to your hats, folks! The melodrama of Italian politics just took a thrilling twist. Giorgia Meloni, the head honcho of Italy, was all set to send migrants off to the beautiful shores of Albania like a reality TV contestant choosing their island getaway. But, lo and behold! The courts have stepped in, and like a spoilsport at a party, they’ve put a hard stop to her grand immigration plan.

Initially, Meloni’s proposal seemed like an innovative wee holiday for those migrants—their own specially built five-star resort in Albania! (Well, more like a glorified hostel, but who are we to quibble?) However, just three days after some enthusiastic travelers from Bangladesh and Egypt made their way to what was to become their temporary Albanian escape, they were seen hopping aboard an Italian coast guard vessel, making their “great escape” back to Bari, like a scene straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster. “One way ticket, please?” Not quite the getaway they hoped for!

Now, let’s talk legalese, shall we? The court in Parma (because, where else?) pointed out that the whole idea of sticking migrants in Albania depended on the premise that Albania is a “safe country.” The judges were practically slapping their foreheads in disbelief. “It’s impossible to say that the countries from which these fine folks come can be recognized as safe,” they declared, while probably wondering if someone had skipped their morning espresso.

What’s even funnier—or sadder, depending on your perspective—is that Italy has conjured up a “broad” definition of what a “safe country” is. Think of it as trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, while everyone else at the party is breathing down your neck. And now, they’re caught up in the recent European directive like a hapless contestant in a game of musical chairs, just hoping to find a seat before the music stops!

Meanwhile, Meloni was off in Lebanon, presumably pondering life’s big questions after receiving this major setback. “I hope they will also tell me what solution they propose,” she grumbled, sounding a bit like a child in a playground who just lost a game of ‘pass the parcel’ but insists on knowing who took the last chocolate. Come on, Giorgia! You can’t just throw a tantrum and expect everyone to provide solutions on a silver platter!

So, as Italy navigates these comedic waters of immigration policy, we’re left wondering: what’s next? Will she try to charter a luxury cruise to ferry them back? Or will it be a reality show featuring her “Rights to Refugees”—where contestants must dodge bureaucracy and court orders to win a stay in sunny Italy? Stay tuned!

Giorgia Meloni is looking for a parade, after her plan to send migrants to Albania was revoked by the courts. Asylum seekers, sent to a specially built center in the country, were able to turn back towards Italy. Explanations.

Three days after their arrival in Albania, 12 migrants from Bangladesh and Egypt re-embarkated, aboard an Italian coast guard vessel, for Bari, in the south of the peninsula. What was presented by the President of the Italian Council and certain European heads of state as an innovation now looks like a serious setback for Gorgia Meloni.

The agreement provides that only healthy migrants from safe countries can be held in Albanian centers. According to the judges, the notion poses a problem. “It is impossible to say that the countries from which the detained people come can be recognized as safe countries.“, declares the Immigration section of the court of Parma (Italy). Caught up by a recent European directive, Italy has in reality drawn up a list of safe countries that is too broad, and not protective enough.

Friday October 18, from Lebanon, Gorgia Meloni accused the blow, annoyed. “I hope they will also tell me what solution they propose” she said.
