Italy: Flooding after heavy rains in Veneto BINTEO – 2024-07-17 10:10:41

According to the latest information, the severe weather that has been hitting Italy in recent days has shifted from the Lombardy region, where floods in Milan caused widespread damage, to the Veneto region.

“No one expected such floods in mid-May, we are facing a terribly difficult situation,” said Veneto regional governor Luca Zaia.

In the city of Vicenza, rushing waters damaged courtyards and ground floors of schools, with no injuries reported.

In many rural areas of Veneto, schools remained closed today, as well as municipal parks and sports centers.

As happened in Milan, the use of special reservoirs allowed the water level to be reduced in a series of rivers. The Veneto region was declared a state of emergency at noon today, using special funds to repair the damage.

According to newsit, in the last twenty-four hours, firefighters carried out over seven hundred operations, throughout the north Italyespecially in Lombardy and Veneto.

In the followingnoon, a new check was carried out in the historic park of the city of Monza, near Milan, to determine whether there might have been any passengers in cars swept away by the raging waters.
