Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni convinced Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to abandon his veto on the start of negotiations with Ukraine on accession to the EU. The newspaper Libero Quotidiano reported this on Saturday, December 16, reports TASS.

According to media reports, the leaders of the countries met before the start of the EU summit in Brussels. After this, Orban decided not to interfere with the launch of the negotiation process.

On the night of December 15, the leaders of the European Union countries decided to begin the negotiation process with Ukraine on joining the association. During this decision, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán left the meeting room in Brussels and did not officially exercise his veto power.

Soon, Orban on social networks called the decision to start EU negotiations with Ukraine bad and added that he “does not want to participate in it.”
