The Italian police arrested French midfielder Timoy Bakayoko, 27, who is currently loaned to AC Milan, at gunpoint on a street in Milan, on suspicion of him.

The pioneers of social networking circulated a video clip showing the moment the police surrounded Bakayoko’s car with weapons while he was standing next to it, as one of the security men searched him physically.

The Italian police said in a statement that “the search operations were carried out in a specific context that justifies the adoption of the highest strict security measures,” stressing that the use of weapons was necessary “given the seriousness of the situation.”

“Once the person was identified and it was established that he was not involved, searches have resumed,” the statement added.

For his part, a Milan media spokesman said, “The player happened to be in an area where there was an exchange of fire, and the police started carrying out searches.”

He indicated that the player had already been suspended, but as soon as the police verified that he had nothing to do with what happened, “they apologized and released him”, according to the Italian newspaper (La Gazzetta dello Sport).

In this context, press reports stated that the former Chelsea player was pulled from his car and searched by an officer, while policemen were pointing their firearms at the passengers in Bakayoko’s car, and then discovered that he was a player (AC Milan) and not the person they were looking for.

The Bakayoko incident occurred nearly two weeks ago, but the video clip that monitors the incident did not circulate until Monday, and achieved more than 1.5 million views within a few hours.

The newspaper (La Gazzetta dello Sport) indicated that the suspect in the French player came once morest the background of an incident that occurred on July 3, following a shooting occurred between Senegalese people due to drug trafficking cases in Milan.

Bakayoko returned to Milan last season and crowned him with the Italian League title following an absence of 11 years.

Bakayoko was loaned to Milan for two years, last summer, where he played 14 matches in the Italian league last season.
