The case ended up in court in the northern Italian city of Pavia. The judges decided that the two men must leave their 75-year-old mother’s apartment by December 18, local daily La Provincia pavese reported.

The mother was upset that the two working brothers did not contribute to the household costs and did not even want to help her with the housework. Since her attempts to convince her to live her own life were in vain, she decided to sue to get her out of her house. The court agreed with her.

In view of uncertain job opportunities, the number of Italians who stay in their parents’ home has increased. According to Eurostat data, 66.4 percent of Italians between the ages of 18 and 34 live with their parents. This proportion is well above the EU average of 50 percent. Men use “Hotel Mama” significantly longer than women.
