LEGALITALIA: The Comedy of Legalities!
Date: 2024-11-09
Welcome, esteemed legal eagles and pasta enthusiasts! Grab a plate of spaghetti and let’s dive into the fascinating world of law and Italian cultural diplomacy, shall we? The first general meeting of LEGALITALIA, the Italian legal elite gathering in the UK, has taken place, and I tell you, if there’s one thing that can make lawyers gather – apart from a lawsuit – it’s a solid plate of carbonara!
The hosts, Comites and a few well-known Italian institutions, rolled out the red carpet (or maybe that was just a cheap tablecloth) for legal professionals who champion Italy’s glorious exports. I mean, what could be more Italian than sending lawyers to defend ‘Made in Italy’? If only they could craft a case for why pineapple on pizza should be illegal – now that’s a court case I’d pay to see!
Speaking of high-profile guests, we heard from none other than Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio via a digital love letter (video message, really) thanking our mad legal scientists for supporting our economy from across the pond. It’s not often you see politicians and chefs in the same room, but here they all were – a true fusion of law and lasagna!
Highlights included discussions led by some of the top names in the legal world: Antonino Galletti, Giulio Biino, and Rocco Franco. You know it’s serious when you have more lawyers at a meeting than at a family reunion! Each one of them advocated for that all-important clause: ‘No one leaves until the pasta is served!’
Congratulations are also in order for the Professional Association of Italian Chefs in the UK for ensuring that while our legal prowess is on point, our taste buds were not neglected! In the end, only one verdict was reached: lunch was served and everyone left feliz—probably with a food baby larger than most legal briefs.
As we wrap up this remarkable tale of legalities and linguine, let’s raise a glass (of Chianti, ideally) to the Italian professionals making waves in the UK! Remember, whether it’s in court or at a dinner table, it’s all about good arguments…and good grub! Here’s to the next LEGALITALIA meeting—may it be as sharp-witted as a lawyer in a courtroom and as tasty as a plate of freshly made ravioli!

The inaugural general assembly of LEGALITALIA, an organization uniting Italian legal professionals and associations operating in the United Kingdom, was successfully held, organized by Comites with vital backing from Italian institutions based in the UK along with both Italian and British professional organizations. During the assembly, I extended greetings from Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, emphasizing the crucial role played by many legal professionals in safeguarding and promoting Italian exports and the esteemed Made In Italy brand within the UK. Their dedication and expertise significantly contribute to the economic advancement of our nation, underlining their position as a pivotal force in driving Italy’s global economic presence.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Valentino Valentini, Deputy Minister of Business and Made in Italy, for his significant contribution through a video greeting that added depth to the proceedings.

Finally, sincere congratulations are extended to the Professional Association of Italian Chefs in the UK, whose generous gesture in providing lunch for the attendees was greatly appreciated—underscoring the spirit of community and support among Italian professionals abroad,” communicated Simone Billi, deputy for the Foreign-Europe constituency and president of the Committee on Italians in the World.
