Asuncion, IP Agency.- Considering the situation generated by Covid-19 in Alto Paraná, Itaipu Binacional met with the inter-institutional commission, formed last Tuesday between the authorities of Itaipu, the Ministry of Public Health (Mspybs) and departmental legislators, to define the priority needs of the area.
In order to provide an immediate response, the Entity committed itself, yesterday Wednesday, to carry out three specific actions, in a coordinated and articulated manner with the Ministry of Health, the total value of which exceeds 3.7 billion guaraníes, which is added to the more than 17.6 million dollars that the Binational invested in the framework of this pandemic in the country and also in the region.
These resources will be used to purchase 10,000 swab kits for a value of 2 billion guaraníes, which will double the response capacity in relation to the number of tests currently being carried out in the tenth department.
It was also decided to allocate the sum of 1,000 million guaraníes to guarantee the operation of seven ambulances with Intensive Care Units (ICU) and to reinforce the work of specialized and support personnel, for the full-time operation of the Molecular Biology Laboratory for Covid Testing.
As a third point, Itaipu also plans to deliver an ambulance equipped for ICU services for an approximate value of 700 million guaraníes, to support actions in the context of the pandemic in Alto Paraná.
The Paraguayan general director of Itaipu, Ernst Bergen, together with authorities from the Ministry of Health, traveled to Alto Paraná to hold a meeting with legislators and health authorities from the east of the country in order to analyze the health situation due to Covid-19, an occasion on which this inter-institutional crisis committee was formed. The executive manager of Tesãi, Fernando Bittinger, was appointed to represent Itaipu to coordinate the meetings, together with Daniel Ramírez, advisor on Social Responsibility of the Binational.
