Itaipu continues food assistance for vulnerable indigenous communities in the Paraguayan Chaco

Asuncion, IP Agency. As part of food assistance, Itaipu Binacional delivered 406 food kits to 11 indigenous communities in the districts of Puerto Pinasco and General Bruguez, in the department of Presidente Hayes.

The delivery of the food kits was carried out in coordination with the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN), community leaders and local representatives. This ensures that aid reaches the families who need it most. Each basket contains basic products essential for daily sustenance, such as rice, flour, oil, sugar and other non-perishable foods.

The leaders of the benefited communities expressed their gratitude for the assistance provided. “This help is very important for our families, especially during these difficult times. We thank Itaipu for its solidarity and constant support,” said one of the community leaders.

Rogelio Sallaberry, the Entity’s Social Responsibility advisor, said that on this occasion the indigenous communities favored were San Fernando Quebrado, San Fernando Laguna Pato 2, San Fernando Salado, San Fernando Lolaico Guazú, San Fernando Central and Curuguaty.

Members of groups from the villages of Paso Lima; La Palmera 1 and 2; Lolaico; and La India also benefited from basic food baskets.

On that occasion, the distribution of the baskets was organized by the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INDI) and the beneficiary communities are located in different points of the national territory.
