An employee of the patient unit awaiting transfer to a long-term care accommodation center (CHSLD), at the Jonquière hospital, is out of breath. The situation would be dangerous for the patients.
Last weekend, only one nurse was present on the floor in the evening. No backup nursing assistant, two beneficiary attendants and no supervisor were on duty until midnight. All this for regarding twenty patients.
“It’s not enough, denounced an employee anonymously. It is a ratio that is not safe. When the auxiliary nurse left, it was hell. The patients lacked security. We had three patients who needed constant bedside care because they are at risk of falls and can be aggressive.”
According to the employee, the lack of supervision is recurrent. However, this is the first time that no supervisor is present.
The upkeep of floor number four at the Jonquière hospital also leaves something to be desired.
“The floors were dirty with urine and sticky. It’s been several days. We try to call maintenance, since it smells strong and it’s unsanitary, ”said the employee.
He would not be the only one of his team to be at the end of his rope. According to him, there have been several departures and others will follow.
“We don’t feel safe,” he said. No employee feels safe, everyone is overwhelmed.”
The union of health care professionals argued that the testimony demonstrates employee dissatisfaction. On Monday, the situation seemed to be back to normal.
Moreover, following verification, both in terms of services and hygiene, the integrated health and social services center of the region (CIUSSS) indicated that no compliance problem was noted.
