The single-member Court of First Instance of Syros banned the operation of a bell in a church on the island in general and not only during the hours of public quiet.

According to cyclades24.gr, the court allowed the operation of the bell only for religious and worship purposes of the church, as it considered that it is not a clock to ring continuously.

The bell of the church in question on the Cyclades island was connected to a clock and rang every 30 minutes.

The matter reached the courts when a resident of the island, whose house is adjacent to the church, appealed against the specific function of the bell and won the case.

Two hundred euros each hit

“For every illegal ringing of the bell, the holy temple is threatened to pay the applicant a fine of 200 euros”, according to the resident’s lawyer.

In fact, he emphasized that this is the first time that a Greek court has made such a decision regarding the use of a bell by a church.
