An American study revealed that drinking 4 cups of coffee a day doubles the risk of developing glaucoma by 75%, which leads to blindness.
The study, which was conducted on 120,000 patients at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, warned of a disaster that threatens people aged 39-73 if they consume 480 milligrams of caffeine daily, as it raises intraocular pressure and causes severe damage to the optic nerve.
And according to the British “Daily Mail”, study leader Luis Pascual says: “Glaucoma is behind blindness in people over 60 years old, and its symptoms do not appear except in advanced stages.”
It is reported that glaucoma causes 10% of blindness cases recorded in the United Kingdom.
