“It posed an imminent threat.” US Central Command announces the destruction of a Houthi drone over the Red Sea

She added in a statement on the “X” platform yesterday, Saturday, that the drone posed an imminent threat to US forces, coalition forces, and commercial ships in the region.

The US Central Command said the drone was destroyed.

The statement said that these measures were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more reassuring.

On Saturday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that a commercial ship sustained minor damage after being subjected to two attacks near the coastal city of Mokha overlooking Bab al-Mandab in western Yemen.

The authority stated in a statement via the “X” platform that “the captain of a commercial ship reported that it was subjected to two attacks 64 nautical miles northwest of the city of Mokha in Yemen.”

She explained that the first attack was carried out by an unmanned aerial system (drone) that exploded near the ship, causing minor damage to it.

The second attack was carried out by a “drone boat” that exploded near the ship.

The authority did not mention in its statement the identity of the ship or its owner.

The British Navy usually refers to such incidents as attacks by the Houthis.

In “solidarity with Gaza”, which is facing a devastating Israeli war with American support, the Houthis targeted Israeli or Israeli-linked cargo ships with missiles and drones in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean and all the way to the Mediterranean Sea.

Since the beginning of this year, a US-led coalition has been launching raids that it says target Houthi sites in various areas of Yemen in response to their attacks in the Red Sea.
