Nordjyske is currently focusing on MARS, a relatively new American-owned dismantling company for large ships and drilling platforms. A company that we are happy regarding in Frederikshavn.
It is of course fair from a journalistic point of view to investigate and report if there are serious problems with security.
But the way in which the problem is attacked is, seen from North Jutland’s eyes, a little too Ekstrablads-like. I am a former incarnate employee of Nordjuyske Stiftstidende, so it pains me to write this.
Over several days, repeated stories have been brought regarding security problems in the company – with full-page pictures, etc. There is not much that can be objected to.
But I don’t think it’s sober when you have to go back several months or years to refer to the problems. Any accident is of course regrettable, no doubt regarding it.
But I suppose that in this kind of business, accidents will happen occasionally, regardless of whether you do everything to avoid them.
What made me react today was Monday’s article regarding a newly hired employee who had the misfortune of falling twenty feet just over two years ago. It’s not nice and he beat himself up.
Six meters is approx. like two floors in a house.
That can be bad enough.
But Nordjyske, by choosing pictures, makes it look as if the fall was from the top of a drilling platform. Large picture on the cover and archive picture from the Tyra drilling platform inside the magazine. (Tyra was disposed of long ago).
The text tells regarding the person who was unlucky enough to fall the six metres:
“… Instead, the injured person was taken to the on-call doctor in a private car. When they got down to the gatekeeper, they threw him into a car and drove off …” !!
One might get the idea: Maybe that was why he was diagnosed with broken bones.
Nordjyske has not been able to get a first-hand account from the injured person, who has resigned.
It is fair to report on security problems, but I do not think it is sober journalism to report as above at all.
