With the takeover of the General Data Center (ARZ) by Accenture, Innsbruck and Tyrol should develop into a leading IT technology location in Europe. But politics is also required. It takes skilled workers and training.
INNSBRUCK. “It’s something special when a leading high-tech company decides to come to Tyrol and invest heavily in the location. Tyrol offers good framework conditions – with well-trained people and a strong network of business and science,” explains Governor Anton Mattle the outsourcing of the Hypo shares in the data center. In 2022, the shareholders of the ARZ decided to be taken over by the leading international technology and consulting company Accenture, which with 738,000 employees advises customers in over 120 countries in the areas of digitization, cloud and security. Hypo Tirol and the Volksbankengruppe have sold their shares in the data center to Accenture. 8 million monetary transactions run through the data center’s servers every day. Accenture will also take care of the protection of highly sensitive data in the future.
Many jobs will be created
“We will set up a comprehensive technology competence center at the Innsbruck location for our customers in Austria and throughout Europe. With 400 highly qualified experts, the ARZ team has the experience to jointly lay the foundation stone for the banking of the future “Made in Austria”. to lay,” explains Michael Zettel, Country Managing Director of Accenture in Austria. The IT implementer Avanade is also coming to Innsbruck with Accenture. Country manager Christiane Noll draws attention to the diverse job prospects in the IT sector: “With flexible working models, employees can drive forward the digital transformation in Austria, Europe and the world.” The Innsbruck location is also excellent because of the livable environment. Accenture and Avanade are therefore inviting people in Tyrol to benefit from international expertise and are also explicitly addressing the people who have been cut at Swarovski in the past.
Taking the right step
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hypo Tirol sees the takeover as the right step: “Sometimes you have to let go so that more can be created – it is therefore strategically correct to take the step to Accenture. The location benefits from the combined expertise of ARZ and the umbrella of Accenture itself, all bank customers can meet the complex challenges of cybersecurity in the long term.”
