The folklorist Sergio Galleguillo said that “it is wrong” that the Festival de Peñas de Villa María continues to use that name since its essence changed to how it was known in past decades. In turn, he highlighted the growth that this event had.
The statements were made during his participation in the folkloric event “Folk Fest” that took place in the city’s amphitheater last weekend.
The event included renowned artists from the national folkloric field, such as Chaqueño Palavecino, Galleguillo himself, Juan Fuentes and Milena Salamanca, along with prominent groups such as Carafea, Saypa and Llawar Llajta.
For his part, Galleguillo, following his presentation at the event, spoke with Radio Villa María regarding his time in the place and recalled that when he got to know the city of Haya in the 90s, “the property was different” as well as the events since they were “truly folklore festivals”.
Although he valued the changes that the International Peñas Festival has undergone over the years, he remarked: “it is wrong that they continue to use the name ‘Peñas Festivals’”.
Along the same lines, he assured that although Folklore “needs more space” today “it is in a crisis” because there are no new people or they are not given the opportunity to show themselves.
