Amendments to the Law on Science and Studies provide for a 10 percent increase in the official salary coefficients of research workers from January 1, 2024, and another 18.7 percent from September 1 of the same year.

As indicated in the explanatory note of the amendments, the total growth of the wages of research workers next year would reach an average of 30.6 percent.

After the discussion, 126 members of the Seimas voted for such changes and two parliamentarians abstained. There is still a final vote on the adoption of the amendments.

From the beginning of next year, salaries would be calculated according to the new basic amount, which is linked to last year’s average monthly salary and will amount to 1785.4 euros.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, which prepared the amendments, calculates that in state scientific research institutes the official salary before taxes for the chief researcher could increase by 209-370 euros, for a senior researcher – by 191-284 euros, for a research worker, trainee researcher – by 191-218 euros, for a junior for a researcher – 169-205 euros.

From September 1, 2024, the gross official salary of a senior researcher would increase by 429-768 euros, a senior researcher – 375-607 euros, a research worker, research trainee – 375-464 euros, a junior researcher – 357-429 euros.

According to the explanatory note, the changes aim to make the average salary of research workers 150% next year. national average wage.
