President Ersin Tatar, together with his wife Sibel Tatar, received the International Down Federation TRNC President Tülay Umut and the team from special education schools in TRNC.
In his speech at the reception, President Tatar said that on March 21, Down Syndrome Day, what can be done to raise awareness of down syndrome and to take care of special children and their expectations is evaluated within the possibilities of the state. Stating that this issue has always been in his area of interest, starting with the Special Education Law, President Tatar expressed his appreciation for the efforts of special education schools and the Ministry of National Education on this issue, and thanked him.
President Tatar said, “We are ready to do whatever it takes to protect our children, and it is our responsibility to offer them the life they deserve by evaluating our opportunities accordingly.”
President Tatar also listened to speeches prepared by children from special education schools.
– With black socks on one hand and blue on the other, the great pain felt due to the earthquake and the importance of cultivating hope in us were shared.
On the occasion of the World Down Syndrome Day, following the reception, the message was given that the pain experienced in the earthquake regions due to the 6 February earthquake in Turkey will not be forgotten, while wearing black socks on one hand and blue socks on the other, it is important to raise hopes at the same time.
It was also emphasized that individuals with Down syndrome are always by their side and they are a part of our lives, in the event where socks are used because the 21st chromosome of individuals with Down syndrome is 3, that is, there is +1 extra chromosome and the chromosomes are similar to socks in terms of shape.
