the CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 yes Meta, Mark Zuckerbergtoday announced the arrival of one of the most anticipated features among users of the WhatsApp when it comes to privacy: the possibility of silence unknown calls.
The novelty — which is starting to be made available to all users now — is capable of automatically identifying and deleting not only calls from unknown numbers, but also spam and fraud. If you receive a call from a person who is not yet in your contacts, your smartphone will not ring.
The feature can be activated through the “Privacy” menu of the messenger, located in the “Settings” tab. According to WhatsApp, it is still possible to see who called through the app’s call list or through the cell phone’s Notification Center – which can be useful if the feature blocked an important call by mistake.
Privacy Check
Another very interesting novelty is the Privacy Check. In testing at least since May, this feature allows the user to know and learn even more regarding each of WhatsApp’s privacy tools.
With this novelty, the user will be able to review their privacy preferences and activate security features, increasing the security of their conversations. To start a verification, just go to the app’s “Privacy” menu and tap “Start Verification” in a banner at the top of the screen.
As you can see in the image above, during verification, the user is invited to revisit settings such as who can contact you, who can see your personal information and the privacy of your conversations, among others.
Also according to WhatsApp, these features are part of a global campaign focused on the importance of safe communication, especially for women. According to a new survey by the YouGov (ordered by WhatsApp), 73% of women said they would open up regarding violence and abuse if a friend contacted them privately.
To help publicize the campaign, the messenger partnered with the Indian actress Anushka Sharma and the former English footballer who advocates for women’s safety Alex Scott. Over the next few weeks, WhatsApp will display a series of messages on the subject in women’s restrooms in public places in both the United Kingdom and Delhi (India).
These messages will be accompanied by QR codes with suggestions on how to contact a friend who may be going through a difficult time using a private message, which disappears without a trace.
Nice initiative, isn’t it?
