ACADEMISSION from FIK UNJ, Prof Moch Asmawi, gave notes regarding the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON). He hopes that the central government can be given more space and responsibility in organizing PON.

It is known that currently organizing PON is the full responsibility of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and also the host region. The host region serves as the chairman of PB PON, namely the National Sports Week Executive Board.

Prof Asmawi was involved in organizing PON XXI in Aceh and North Sumatra. He witnessed how the facilities were not ready even though the PON event had opened.

“When PON opened, it wasn’t ready. Both the field and facilities. I happened to be on the volleyball court, motorbike racing and athletics. Until D-1 in athletics it was not ready, there were no lights, until the first day in the afternoon the awarding of prizes was dark. “There is also the Minister (Menpora) there,” said Asmawi, Tuesday (1/10).

“PON was designed long ago, at least 4 years before implementation. Everything should be ready, from materials, personnel, human resources, buildings, facilities should be ready. However, in reality it is still improving and has already competed and is even about to finish competing. “However, the preparations are still not yet complete,” he said.

According to Asmawi, there needs to be changes in the implementation of PON. He said that the Central Government should be given more involvement in organizing PON.

“What I need to underline, however, is that the central government has a leading role because it is the one that pays the most for this PON, including facilities or infrastructure,” said Asmawi.

“Later, the provinces can work together to adapt to the center. “However, no matter what, the center is the main person responsible,” he said.

The Central Government must be given more authority to make the PON event a success. Prof Asmawi sees that the current PON organizers do not involve the central government.

“Essentially the central government is the controller and the main thing because the central government is the one that gives authority, but so far the central government has not been given the opportunity to determine everything. Always prepare human resources, facilities, transportation, and so on. “Hopefully it will continue to run smoothly,” he said.

Prof Asmawi said that PON should follow the National Sports Grand Design (DBON). PON is an athlete’s first stage towards the Olympics.

“Remember, we have a National Sports Grand Design (DBON) which refers to the Olympic games. In fact, the ASEAN Games or SEA Games are an intermediary to the Olympics. After all, referring to the Olympics,” he said.

Asmawi criticized too many sports (Sports), which were competed in at PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra. For him, there are too many traditional sports being competed.

“Sorry, recreational sports are being competed in, traditional sports are being contested. It’s not fair to compete. “It should be adjusted to the Olympic Games, ASEAN and also the SEA Games. Even though the main reference is the Olympic Games as a DBON reference,” he said.
