It is expected that next March will be able to overcome the problem of the undersea fiber optic cable

At the earliest this March, the problem of breaking the undersea fiber optic cable will be overcome. This is a force majeure incident, all of Vietnam’s internet service providers suffer losses.

In the past time, the internet has been unstable, greatly affecting the work and communication of many Vietnamese users. At the beginning of the new year 2023, many people might not use television and entertainment services over the internet because the picture was constantly frozen and the internet access was too slow.

The cause of the situation is that the four undersea fiber optic cables AAG, APG, AAE-1 and IA have problems. In particular, IA (Lien Asia) happened at a location regarding 130km from the Singapore landing station.

The incident has lost all international connection capacity from Vietnam to Singapore on the Pan-Asia route. An APG international undersea cable also had problems on the S9 branch connecting to Singapore, on the 30th of the Lunar New Year. AAG and AAE-1 have both had problems since late 2022 and have not yet fixed them.

This is a force majeure incident, Vietnam’s internet service providers are all damaged and are working hard with partners exploiting undersea fiber optic cables to quickly fix the problem, as well as upgrade the download. adjacent cable lines to reduce the burden.

Every year, on average, Vietnam sees regarding 10 times when an undersea cable has major problems, and the recovery time can take from one to several months depending on the location of the incident as well as the weather. But in the case of multiple undersea fiber optic lines having problems at the same time like this, network operators need to quickly have more backup plans.

It is expected that the APG cable route will be the first to be restored in March 2023. The remaining 3 undersea cable routes are not yet known when they will be restored.
