Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Children’s Hospital “Niños de Acosta Ñu” has opened the outpatient oncology ward for the care of children who have completed their cancer treatments. From January to June 2024, there were 4,400 consultations for children with cancer and it is estimated that the care will close with about 10,000 cases, according to Dr. María Liz Benítez, during an interview with state media.
He stressed that the new pavilion is an achievement obtained through the cooperation of the Japanese government and the management of the Mitã’í Parents Foundation, which has been providing support to support the treatment of children with cancer since the hospital’s inception.
He stressed that care continues in the old area and, with the new space, will increase for children who come after a specific treatment such as a bone marrow transplant or post-conventional chemotherapy check-ups, which will increase from 1,000 to 2,000 consultations, in addition to those already provided in the previous pavilions. He estimated that by the end of the year they will have attended to some 10,000 consultations.
During the consultations carried out between January and July of this year, 4,400 children were treated, but with the opening of the Oncology Pavilion, the number will increase and the projection is to reach 10,000 consultations by the end of the year, said Benítez, highlighting the opening of the outpatient clinic.
She pointed out that this space complements the existing area, which becomes a welcoming place for the family and the child who comes for follow-up, treatment or post-chemotherapy check-ups. She stressed that it complements the comprehensive care they want to give the child with quality and warmth.
This place has five consulting rooms for children with different specialists in the areas of onco-hematology, neurosurgery, traumatology, endocrinology and psychology. She said that this space, far from the old pavilion, is expected to be like a bubble for the child, who sometimes comes with his defenses a little low, needs to be in a comfortable environment and in this way, have everything in the same place.
He also mentioned that they have a schedule of attention with the various specialists who are given in different shifts, in such a way as to have the order of the appointments that are in the morning or in the afternoon.
In the onco-hematology area, follow-up consultations are offered from 7:30 to 11:30. Likewise, with the other specialists, the hours would be extended, both in the morning and in the afternoon.
He also highlighted that all the clinics are equipped to provide the best care for children, with good lighting, hygiene measures to avoid contagion; there is a large waiting room with bathrooms for the patient, companion and doctors.
In addition, they have the HIS System through which consultations are recorded and specialist doctors are aware of the child’s condition.
The Children’s Hospital “Niños de Acosta Ñu” continues to be a benchmark in the specialized care of children with serious illnesses and, with this new addition, reinforces its commitment to providing quality care to its patients, also reported the Ministry of Public Health.
