“It is consumed a lot”: Paraguayan meat stands out in the Chilean market, says Boric

Asuncion, IP Agency.- President Gabriel Boric stressed that Paraguayan meat stands out in his country’s markets. “Paraguayan meat is widely consumed,” he said during his activities for his first official visit to Paraguay.

Chile has become the main buyer of Paraguayan meat, a position it has maintained for years. In the first half of this year, 40% of exports were for the Andean country’s market.

President Santiago Peña praised the great prestige of national meat production for a trade balance of more than USD 1.6 billion annually. “Chile was the number one market for beef in 2019, and since 2020 Paraguay has been the most important supplier,” he said.

The Paraguayan president, however, indicated his desire to increase this trade exchange to reach the levels that Chile maintains with Colombia and Peru.

To this end, a discussion was held on Wednesday with businessmen from Paraguay and Chile as part of Gabriel Boric’s official visit, which will also include the signing of agreements to update an agreement to eliminate double taxation for investments and another agreement in the cultural field.
