Full-cycle production of new armored vehicles will begin in May of this year at the Defense Partnership Latvia production facility, with the result that the first vehicle will be ready for testing no earlier than July of this year. The Ministry of Defense has identified several possible solutions so that tests of new armored vehicles can take place right here in Latvia.
The production of armored vehicles in a full cycle is an important step in the development of the domestic military industry, the ministry notes, since such a large-scale production of military equipment has not been carried out in our country since the restoration of Latvian independence. In Latvia, it is planned to produce regarding 30 Patria armored personnel carriers annually, which are necessary not only to support the military industry, but also to develop and strengthen the national industry.
The preparation of regulations has already begun so that in the future it will be possible to ensure testing of military equipment on the territory of Latvia. In the meantime, the Ministry of Defense and the National Armed Forces (NAF) will propose an operational solution that will affect the delivery schedule set by the NAF. Considering that until now, in accordance with the production schedule, tests of armored vehicles have been carried out in Finland, deliveries to the NAF are also not delayed, the ministry said.
