Books – Ahmed Massad:
Dr. Ismail Radwan, an expert in fish farming at the General Authority for Fisheries, revealed that the chical, or what is known in the media as “Ghalaba shrimp,” is one of the types of crustaceans scattered around the world, explaining that it entered Egypt nearly 20 years ago.
He said in exclusive statements to “Masrawy” that the shekel was brought from a number of foreign countries, most notably China and the United States of America, noting that the reason for importing it is to feed on pollutants from the Nile River, weeds and Nile roses.
The global expert on fish farming added that the map of its presence began in southern Cairo and then spread to the rest of the banks and canals, and its numbers increased with the passage of time, stressing that what is known as “predominant shrimp” contains a high nutritional value because of its protein content.
He pointed out that the season of catching the chical begins in April, and the price of a kilo varies from 10 pounds to 40 pounds, and it contains roe, adding that it is completely different from shrimp, as it stays at the bottom of the river and its shape and taste differ from shrimp.
