Valve is developing a new VR controller. As related patents are disclosed, rumors that Valve is preparing a new VR device are gaining momentum.

On the 22nd, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted a patent for Valve’s new VR controller. The official name is Electronic Controller with Adaptive Hand Strap. It is equipped with a strap that can be adjusted according to the shape of the hand, so the device does not fly away even if the controller is thrown or dropped.

Looking at the picture presented in the submission, the appearance is similar to the hand controller for the valve index that is currently being sold. However, the part of the strap that wraps around the back of the hand can be adjusted, and it is designed in a folding structure to hold the device more firmly in the hand. At the top, there is a ring similar to the meta quest controller to help with hand tracking. In addition, thanks to the strap, the position of the finger is also fixed in one place, so individual tracking of the finger is possible.

Meanwhile, Valve received a patent for a VR head-mounted device from the USPTO in June. The device is a standalone device that does not require a separate connection. If Valve is preparing a new VR headset, there is a possibility that the patented controller will be introduced here.
